A hardy, small tree, up to 20 m but usually smaller, with spreading crown creating good shade. Small panicles of pale flowers are followed by bird-attractive fruits.
Host Plant for Deudorix diovis (Bright Cornelian) butterfly. Caterpillars tended by ants.
