September 2009 Events in Brisbane and Queensland

• February to September 2009 - UQ Drive Groups - A free six week program run by the University of Queensland for older drivers or people who have recently stopped driving. The group program runs for one morning per week. For more information and 2009 dates visit UQ Drive.
   
• 1 to 30 September - Oxfam's Exchange for Change - Australian women are invited to host a clothes exchange at any time in September to raise funds for Oxfam Australia. Swap clothes that you no longer wear, love or need to help raise funds to fight global poverty.
   
• 1 to 8 September 2009 - Adult Learners' Week - Aims to celebrate and promote all forms of adult and lifelong learning with a strong focus on literacy.
   
• 2 to 13 September 2009 - Short + Sweet Brisbane - An annual 10 minute theatre festival which aims to showcase and discover local talent. Actors, directors and writers are invited to participate. Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm. (For more writers festivals see BCL Books.)
   
• 3 September (Thursday) 2009 - Australian National Flag Day - The 108th birthday of the Australian Flag. It was first raised on this day in 1901.
   
• 3 September (Thursday) 2009 - Queensland Connections 2009 - The Makings of a Nutty Business - A free lunchtime talk on the beginnings of the macadamia industry with guest speaker Catherine Chambers of the Cultural Heritage Branch of the Environmental Protection Agency. 12.30pm to 1.15pm at the Queensland Museum, Cnr of Grey and Melbourne Sts, South Bank. • 4 to 13 September 2009 - Boonah 2009 Arts Festival - Presented by the Boonah Arts Collective. • 17 August to 5 September 2009 - Brisbane Arts Theatre Drama Festival - Incorporating the Interschool Improvisation Competition.
   
• 30 August to 5 September 2009 - Legacy Week - The funds raised from this year’s Badge Appeal will help Legacy continue to assist 120,000 widows and 1,900 children and people with disabilities Australia-wide.

• 5 September (Saturday) 2009 - Generation Next Seminar - Conducted in partnership with Beyondblue. A national seminar which explores the pressures, needs, healthcare and sociological challenges facing Australian teenagers, adolescents, parents and anyone working with young people.
