There is very little residential property in Mt Coo-tha. Despite some homes being nestled into the surrounding bushland such residential properties are mostly are considered to be in the suburb of Rainworth and Bardon. Mt Coot-tha has been described as the lungs of Brisbane with the majority of the suburb being bushland except for a few commercial properties.
Mt Coo-tha has a scenic drive and lookout with some exceptional views of the greater Brisbane area. It is a popular recreational for bush walking, mountain biking and bird watching. Channel 7, Channel 9 and Channel 10 TV stations are all located on Mt Coot-tha and their towers can be seen from many areas of the city.
Since 1983, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens have been on the foot of Mt-Coot-tha. (The previous botanic gardens in the city are now called the City Gardens.) Entry to the gardens if free, although you may be tempted by the cafe and shop. There are guided and plenty of self-guided walks. Attractions include:
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium with its Cosmic Skydome, Display Zone, Mini Theatre, Observatory and Planetarium shop is also at the Botanic Gardens.
