Hamilton is approx 5km northeast of Brisbane's CBD on the north bank of the Brisbane River. Hamilton is one of Brisbane's most affluent 'old wealth' suburbs, and the area is traditionally home to powerful families and personalities. The Royal Queensland Golf Club was established at Hamilton in 1920. The club now has the Gateway Bridge spanning its course and has lost some holes due to the construction of the second bridge.
Hamilton's major roads are Kingsford-Smith Drive along the river and Racecourse Road, which it shares with Ascot. Racecourse Road is known for its boutiques and designer shops, cafes and restaurants.
The area is accessible by public transport including numerous bus routes as well as the CityCat ferry service. Hamilton borders Albion on its west towards the city and Eagle Farm to the east.
Hamilton's Portside Wharf
is home to Brisbane Cruise Terminal, as well as shopping, dining and
cinema.
