Chelmer is approximately 7km west of the CBD across the Walter Taylor Bridge (wikipedia) from Indooroopilly. Graceville is the next suburb to the south. Oxley Road runs from the bridge through Chelmer on to Graceville, Sherwood, Corinda and Oxley where it meets Ipswich Road.

Chelmer is surrounded on three sides by the Brisbane River and boasts some magnificent historic riverside Queenslander homes and parklands. Chelmer is on the Brisbane to Ipswich suburban trail line.
