7km from the Brisbane CBD, Alderley is one of Brisbane's older suburbs. It has been home to Farrington House since 1882, a post office since 1878 and a railway station since 1899.  Alderley's high proportion of Queenslander-style homes has attracted restorers and renovators.  The Alderley Arms Hotel is the local watering hole, while Alderley Plaza has a supermarket and post office. Grinstead Park down by Kedron Brook is a family favourite. Nearby facilities are the cinemas at Stafford, Brookside Shopping Centre at Mitchelton and the Newmarket Hotel.

Major roads, Samford Road and South Pine Road, meet at Alderley, funneling commuters and city-bound traffic into Kelvin Grove Road. The 5-way roundabout at Pickering Street (we voted it the worst roundabout in Brisbane!) has been  redeveloped in 2008 and is now 4 way with traffic bound for South Pine Road being sent on to Sicklefield Street. A vast improvement.
