West End is one of the older suburbs of Brisbane and is a lively mixture of cultures. West End, South Brisbane and Highgate Hill are on a peninsula with the Brisbane River to the west and south.
From Brisbane CBD, West End is across Victoria Bridge and past South Brisbane - well within walking distance.West End has long been home to migrant and indigenous communities, but in recent years parts of West End have been redeveloped and gentrified.
You'll find a diverse range of cuisines in restaurants, take-aways and coffee shops along Boundary Street and surrounding areas. Bent Books (pictured right) is a treasure trove of quality second-hand books for the discerning reader and booklover.
West End has high-frequency bus services that run towards the city. There is also a Citycat ferry service that goes to the university at Saint Lucia and downriver to Hamilton. South Brisbane Railway Station and the Cultural Centre Busway Station provide quick access to the southern suburbs.
The West End / Dutton Park area is also just across the Brisbane River from Toowong and St Lucia, making it a popular spot for university students and staff to live.
