Sandgate Road (state route 26) is one of Brisbane's major roads, bringing traffic from Boondall in the north towards the city. This includes traffic from the Redcliffe Peninsula, Sandgate, Shorncliffe and surrounding areas.
Sandgate Road includes fast-moving wide roads through suburbs like Virginia to winding roads with bottlenecks in older, inner-city suburbs making it a very challenging road for drivers. Peak hour traffic is particularly difficult.
Sandgate Road traffic to the city diverts at Albion to Abbotsford Road and either the Inner City Bypass or through Bowen Hills to St Paul's Terrace.
